The Ultimate Stratton Mountain Ski Weekend Guide

Planning a Stratton Mountain ski weekend? The difference between a good trip and a great one comes down to timing, location, and knowing the mountain.

Getting There

Stratton is 2.5 hours from Boston and 3.5 hours from NYC via I-91 North and VT-30. Free parking at the base lodge—arrive before 9 AM on weekends for the best spots. From NYC, the Stratton Jitney bus with WiFi is an excellent option.

Where to Stay

For groups of 8+, off-mountain lodging (5–10 minutes from base) wins hands-down. You get full kitchens, multiple living areas, private hot tubs, and significantly better value per person. And everything at Stratton’s base shuts down by 8 PM anyway.

Stratton Ski Haus sits just 7 minutes from Stratton’s access road in Jamaica, Vermont—a modern A-frame with private hot tub, cedar sauna, firepit, gigabit WiFi, and room for 10 guests.

Friday: Arrival

Aim to arrive before sunset. Stock up at Winhall Market (46 VT-30, Bondville) or West River Provisions (3816 VT-30, Jamaica) for groceries. Check grooming reports for tomorrow, then step outside for stargazing—Jamaica sits in one of Vermont’s lowest light-pollution valleys.

Lift Tickets & Ikon Pass

Dynamic pricing: Adult tickets run $100–$160/day depending on season and advance purchase. Book early at Stratton.com—walk-up prices are always higher. Ikon Pass includes unlimited access to Stratton plus 50+ resorts.

Saturday: On the Mountain

8:30 AM — First chair: American Express high-speed six-pack. First run down Wanderer—3+ miles of groomed cruising in morning calm.

9:30–11 AM: Lap Sunrise Express (shorter lines) and link into Upper Tamarack or Kidderbrook if there’s fresh snow in the trees.

12:30 PM — Lunch: Mid-Mountain Lodge. Smaller, quieter, deck with valley views. Skip the crowded base lodge.

4:30 PM — Après: Grizzly’s for energy, or Fire Tower in Stratton Village for a fireside maple bourbon cocktail. See our full après guide.

Sunday: Slow Morning

Sleep in a bit—Sunday morning crowds are lighter. One final lap, then Jamaica State Park for a walk along the West River before heading home. Swing through Manchester for brunch and outlet browsing.

Best Time to Visit

  • Peak (late Dec–Feb): Best snow, all trails open, higher prices and crowds
  • Value (early Dec, March): Good conditions, fewer crowds, better deals
  • Spring (late March–April): Softer snow, warmer temps, great for beginners

Book Stratton Ski Haus — 7 minutes from first chair, private hot tub, sauna, firepit, room for 10.
