Killington’s après scene is the liveliest in Vermont, and most of it sits on one road. The 4 mile Killington Road runs from Route 4 up to the base lodges, and nearly every spot below is a short drive from the lifts. Hours change by season, so check before you go.
Classic Après
Lookout Tavern (2910 Killington Rd) is the easy first stop. Expect burgers, wings, chili and eight Vermont beers on tap. Pool and pinball keep the group busy while you wait for a table.
Charity’s 1887 Saloon (2194 Killington Rd) is built around an antique bar handcrafted in France in 1887. The menu leans comfort food: nachos, poutine, pot pies and steak.
Preston’s at the Killington Grand Hotel is the upscale pick. Try the Spruce Tip Gimlet with Killington Distillery gin and the Vermont cheese board. Reserve ahead for groups of 8 or more.
Dinner with the Group
Casey’s Caboose (1930 Killington Rd) sits in a 1900s railroad snowplow car. The French onion soup and filet mignon are local favorites, and it’s often rated the top restaurant in Killington.
Sushi Yoshi (1807 Killington Rd) does hibachi with a show, which makes it a hit with kids and big tables. The sushi menu is long.
The Garlic (1724 Killington Rd) is the date-night Italian spot. Order the garlic rack of lamb. It’s cozy, so call early for a large table.
On the Mountain
The Ledgewood Yurt is a ski-in lunch reached from the Snowshed area. Loaded potato soup and mulled wine are the move, and reservations help on busy days. The Waffle Cabins near the K-1 and Ramshead lodges fix the mid-afternoon slump. Peak Lodge at the top of the gondola has the best views on the mountain.
Late Night
The Pickle Barrel runs four bars over three levels with two stages of live music. The Wobbly Barn pairs a steakhouse with a 21+ club and some of the best live bands on the mountain. Jax Food and Games keeps it casual with darts, arcade games and live music most weekends.
Tips for Big Groups
- Saturday nights fill up. Book dinner for 8 or more at least a few days ahead.
- Pick a driver or use a local taxi. Killington Road is dark and icy at night.
- Split the night. Do après out, then dinner and the hot tub at the house.
