Killington does not shut down when the snow melts. The resort runs one of the biggest lift-served bike parks in the East, and the Appalachian Trail crosses the town. Summer rates are lower and the roads are empty.
Killington Resort in Summer
- Bike park: Lift-served downhill trails off the K-1 Gondola and Snowshed, from flowy beginner runs to steep tech lines.
- Beast Mountain Coaster: 4,800 feet of track through the woods at Snowshed.
- Adventure Center: A ropes course, zip line, maze and trampolines. Buy tickets online, even on the day you go.
- Scenic gondola: Ride to Peak Lodge near the summit for lunch with a view.
Hiking
The Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail split at Maine Junction, just north of Killington. That makes the area one of the best hiking bases in Vermont.
- Deer Leap Overlook: A short climb from Sherburne Pass to a ledge facing Pico and Killington. Good for kids.
- Killington Peak via the Bucklin Trail: A longer day hike to Vermont’s second-highest peak.
- Gifford Woods State Park: Easy loops through old-growth forest, right next to Kent Pond.
Water and Golf
Kent Pond is calm and great for paddleboards and kayaks. Chittenden Reservoir is a short drive and has almost no development on its shores. Green Mountain National Golf Course is a few minutes from the access road and gets strong reviews.
Day Trips
Woodstock is about 25 minutes east for shops, Billings Farm and the covered bridge. Long Trail Brewing is about 11 miles away and has a riverside deck. Rutland’s farmers market runs on Saturdays.
Where to Stay
Killington Ski Haus sleeps 16 in two private units. Summer guests get the pool, which reopens in May, plus the hot tub and fire pit. It is 5 minutes from the K-1 Base Lodge and the bike park.
