The Ultimate Stratton Mountain Ski Weekend Guide

A Stratton ski weekend is straightforward to plan if you know the mountain. Here’s how to set one up.

Getting There

Stratton is about 2.5 hours from Boston and 3.5 hours from NYC. Take I-91 North to VT-30. Free parking at the base lodge. Get there before 9 AM on weekends if you want a decent spot.

From NYC, the Stratton Jitney bus has WiFi and drops you at the resort.

Where to Stay

If your group is 8 or more, off-mountain lodging wins. You get a full kitchen, multiple living areas, a private hot tub, and better value per person. Everything at Stratton’s base shuts down by 8 PM anyway, so there’s no nightlife advantage to staying slopeside.

Stratton Ski Haus is 7 minutes from the access road in Jamaica, Vermont. Four bedrooms, sleeps 10. Hot tub, barrel sauna, fire pit, gigabit WiFi.

Friday: Arrival

Try to arrive before sunset. Pick up groceries at Winhall Market (46 VT-30, Bondville) or West River Provisions (3816 VT-30, Jamaica). Check the grooming report for Saturday. Then step outside. Jamaica sits in one of Vermont’s lowest light-pollution valleys, and the stargazing is good.

Lift Tickets

Adult tickets run $100 to $160 per day depending on season and how far ahead you buy. Book at Stratton.com. Walk-up prices are always higher.

The Ikon Pass includes unlimited access to Stratton plus 50+ other resorts. If you ski more than 5 or 6 days a year, the math works out.

Saturday: On the Mountain

8:30 AM — First chair on the American Express high-speed six-pack. Take Wanderer for your first run. It’s 3+ miles of groomed cruising and the morning light hits it well.

9:30 to 11 AM — Lap Sunrise Express where lines are shorter. Link into Upper Tamarack or Kidderbrook if there’s fresh snow in the trees.

12:30 PM — Lunch at Mid-Mountain Lodge. Smaller and quieter than the base lodge. There’s a deck with valley views.

4:30 PM — Après at Grizzly’s for energy, or Fire Tower in the Village for something calmer. We wrote a full après-ski guide if you want more options.

Sunday: Slow Morning

Sleep in. Sunday morning crowds are lighter than Saturday. Get one last session in, then drive through Jamaica State Park for a walk along the West River before heading home. Or swing through Manchester for brunch and outlet browsing.

Best Time to Visit

Peak (late December through February): Best snow, all trails open. Higher prices and more people.

Value (early December, March): Good conditions, fewer crowds, better deals.

Spring (late March through April): Softer snow, warmer temps. Great for beginners and anyone who likes skiing in a t-shirt.

Stratton Ski Haus is 7 minutes from first chair. Four bedrooms, sleeps 10.
