Not everyone wants to ski every day. Killington has plenty for the rest day, the non-skiers and the kids who are done by noon. Most of these are within 30 minutes of the access road.
On the Mountain
- Snow tubing: The Killington Tubing Park has multiple lanes and a lift. Riders need to be at least 36 inches tall.
- Beast Mountain Coaster: A 4,800 foot track that twists through the woods from Snowshed. Kids over 36 inches can ride.
- Scenic gondola ride: Take the K-1 Gondola to Peak Lodge for lunch and the view across five states on a clear day.
- Snowcat sleigh rides: A snowcat pulls the sleigh up the trails after the lifts close.
Around Killington
- Snowshoeing: Bear Trax Adventures leads guided tours. Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden has groomed trails and rentals.
- Horse-drawn sleigh rides: Mountain Top Inn runs them on its property above Chittenden Reservoir.
- Dog sledding: Braeburn Siberians takes small groups out with a husky team.
- Fat biking: Fat Bike Vermont rents bikes and runs short tours on packed snow.
- Ice skating: The Foundry at Summit Pond has skating with rentals, and Union Arena in Woodstock is indoors.
Day Trips
- Woodstock: About 25 minutes east. Walk the village green, browse Gillingham’s general store and visit Billings Farm and Museum.
- Long Trail Brewing: About 11 miles away in Bridgewater Corners. The pub sits right on the Ottauquechee River.
- Rutland: About 25 minutes west. The Paramount Theatre runs shows and movies, and Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center is open year-round.
- Sugar & Spice: Pancakes and real maple syrup inside a working sugarhouse in Mendon.
At the House
Some of the best rest days never leave the driveway. A hot tub, a fire pit and a stack of board games carry a group further than a packed schedule.
Killington Ski Haus has a private hot tub, a big outdoor fire pit, two living rooms with propane fireplaces and a 65 inch TV upstairs. It sleeps 16, 5 minutes from the K-1 Base Lodge.
