Where you stay in Killington shapes the whole trip. The resort is spread across six peaks and several base areas, and the 4 mile access road connects most of the restaurants and lodging. This guide compares the main options for families and big groups so you can pick the right base.
Slopeside Hotels and Condos
The Killington Grand Hotel and the condos near Snowshed and Ramshead put you closest to the lifts. That convenience comes at a price, and units are small. A group of 12 usually needs three or four rooms or condos, and you won’t all eat together without a reservation.
Slopeside works well for couples and small families who want to ski in and out and eat out every night.
Killington Road
The access road is the social center of Killington. Inns, condos and rental homes sit within a short drive of the K-1 and Snowshed lodges, and the bars and restaurants are right there. Staying here means a short morning drive and dinner a few minutes away.
For most groups, this is the best balance. You get space and lower prices than slopeside, and you’re still 5 minutes from the lifts.
Route 4 and Pico
Lodging along Route 4 and near Pico tends to cost less. The tradeoff is a longer drive, and the Route 4 traffic on Saturday mornings can add real time. If your group plans to ski Pico, which shares Killington’s lift tickets, this area makes more sense.
Rutland and Woodstock
Rutland is about 25 minutes away and has the most hotels and grocery stores. Woodstock is a postcard Vermont village roughly 30 minutes east. Both work for a quieter trip, but you’ll drive every day and miss the après scene.
What Big Groups Should Look For
- Real beds for everyone. Count beds, not “sleeps.” Sofa beds and air mattresses wear thin by night two.
- Bathrooms. Aim for one per four guests so the morning rush works.
- Two kitchens or one very large one. Group breakfasts are slow with one stove.
- Parking. Confirm how many cars fit, and whether RVs or trailers are allowed.
- Gear space. Boot warmers and an entry for wet gear save the floors and your mornings.
- Something to do at night. A hot tub, fire pit or fireplace beats crowding into a bar.
A Duplex Built for 16
Killington Ski Haus sits 5 minutes from the K-1 Base Lodge and 2 minutes from Killington Road restaurants. It’s a freshly renovated duplex with two private 3-bedroom units booked together.
- 4 king bedrooms and 2 bunk rooms with 2 bunk beds each, for 16 guests
- 3.5 bathrooms: 2 full baths upstairs, 1 full and 1 half downstairs
- Two full kitchens and two living rooms, each with a propane fireplace
- Private hot tub, big fire pit, 3 boot warmers and 1 Gbps WiFi
- Parking for 3 to 4 cars
Two families can each take a unit, keep their own bedtime routines and still share dinner and the hot tub. It’s run by the same team behind Stratton Ski Haus.
When to Book
Large homes go first. Christmas through New Year’s, MLK weekend and Presidents’ Week often book months ahead. If your group is set on those dates, reserve now and settle the headcount later.
